Unlike cylindrical tanks, where pressure is distributed radially, rectangular walls are subject to bending, generating different stresses in panels and reinforcements.

This means that the structural design must consider buckling, deflection, and horizontal or vertical reinforcement, depending on the liquid level. Structural profiles—such as U-channels, L-channels, or beams—are incorporated as stiffeners to ensure external stability. Perimeter joints and connections require special attention to guarantee watertightness, as deformations are greater than in cylindrical geometries.
